Planning for Great Lives For Young People with SEND Event

Preparing for Adulthood are hosting a free two-day event for the West Midlands at Carrs Lane Conference Centre, Carrs Lane, Birmingham, B4 7SX.  Each day will start at 9.30 and finish at 16.30. The aims for each day are set out below. The content for day one and day two is linked so please attend both days, if possible.

PACC understands that it is often difficult for parent carers to travel out of area to events like these but as this event is open to parent carers we wanted to share this information for those of you who might be able to attend.  PACC will also be attending both days and will share key information any resources made available.

Day one: Planning for positive life outcomes for young people with SEND

Aims;

To increase understanding about planning for life outcomes and preparation for employment and how this can be reflected in Education Health and Care Plans

To develop awareness of the importance of writing positive, SMART outcomes (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound)

To increase confidence in writing SMART outcomes

To raise awareness of the Mental Capacity Act and its importance from age 16

To introduce key concepts and dispel myths about employment and benefits

 

Day 2: Making Preparing for Adulthood reviews work for young people

Aims;

To consider what a good person centred, Preparing for Adulthood review would look like

To identify activities that are needed to support the review process

To improve preparation and practice for, and in, reviews

To increase understanding of study programmes

To further improve outcome writing

To learn about the benefits of supported internships and inclusive apprenticeships from people involved in them.
