Education Committee SEND Report

23/10/2019

The Education Committee Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Report was published today and while many are saying it makes for grim reading, parent carers will not be surprised by its contents.

Positively it highlights the need for improved joint working and the value of working in partnership with families, and these are areas where Parent Carer Forums can continue to support activity.

It is pleasing to see that the report clearly reflects the National Network of Parent Carer Forums contribution, as well as references local Forums experiences. It is clear to see the messages shared over the last year are echoed in this report.

The SEND Review announced in September will enable many of the issues identified in the Education Committee’s report to be considered further and in particular will focus on the need for whole system reform. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/major-review-into-support-for-children-with-special-educational-needs
