PaCC Community Navigator Service

The PaCC Community Navigator service is available as part of PaCC’s Community Support Offer. Offering personalised signposting and Information Provision for families of children and young people with SEND, aged 0-25-years in Shropshire. Whether your child/ young person already has identified needs, or needs are emerging, our Navigator can talk you through support and options available for your child/ young person with SEND and signpost you to services that may be of benefit on their journey.

  • A listening ear – a non-judgemental conversation with someone who understands the realities of navigating SEND.
  • Personalised information – helping families understand relevant processes, options and services.
  • Signposting – identifying organisations, services, resources and sources of specialist advice that may be able to help.
  • Help navigating the SEND system – helping families work out where they are in a process and where they could go next.
  • Support to think ahead – particularly around transitions and Preparation for Adulthood.
  • Follow-up information – after the initial 30-minute phone or Teams conversation, families receive an email containing relevant information and links.

  • Advocacy or representation – Navigators do not speak on a family's behalf, attend meetings as their representative or argue their case with services.
  • Casework – Navigators do not take responsibility for managing an individual family's case or progressing actions for them.
  • Legal advice – they can provide general information about SEND processes and signpost to specialist advice, but they are not providing legal advice.
  • Completion of paperwork on a family's behalf – for example, writing EHCP requests, appeals, complaints or benefit applications for families.
  • Decision-making – Navigators cannot tell families what they should do or make decisions for them. They provide information to help families make their own informed choices.
  • Professional assessments – they do not assess a child's educational, health or social care needs or provide clinical/professional opinions.
  • Direct access to services – a Navigator cannot guarantee a referral, assessment, service, placement, funding or particular outcome.
  • Replacing statutory or specialist services – the service doesn't replace SENDIASS, social care, health professionals, education settings, legal advisers or other specialist organisations.
