The Schools White Paper and SEND Reform

The SEND system seems to be constantly in the news at the moment, everyone has an opinion and something to say about the lives we as a community are living and experiencing every day.  Much of what is being said is worrying and, in some cases, upsetting, we know that the upcoming reforms, speculation and leaked stories are causing anxiety for SEND families.

The Schools White Paper is expected to be published this coming week, possibly on Monday, however it is important to remember that it will only contain suggested changes to the SEND system, and nothing will change immediately.  Any changes to SEND law eventually agreed are likely to take several years to go through consultation, Parliament and implementation.

From the point that the White Paper outlining the proposed SEND Reforms is published, PACC will share information about the key points, what it might mean for SEND families and information about how you can participate in the consultation process.  We will continue to work with you to ensure that your voice is heard and your experiences shape how support is provided.

The next few months are likely to busy and possibly challenging but please remember that you are not alone on this journey and PACC will continue to offer information and support to you and your family, as we all seek to ensure that our children and young people lead the best lives possible.

If you need to speak to somebody on an individual issue for personalised signposting and information, contact the PACC Navigator Service.

If you want to know about social activity opportunities for children and young people with SEND, join PACC’s Buddies Social Network or register for PACC’s Healthy Lives Holiday Programme.

Information about all these support offers can be found on the Community Support section of the PACC website.
