Shropshire’s SEND system is expected to be inspected soon under the new SEND Inspection Framework introduced in June 2025. The inspection looks at how well the local SEND partnership works together to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The local SEND partnership includes education, health and social care services that plan, manage, deliver and review SEND support. The inspection covers all children and young people with SEND aged 0–25, including those with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan and those receiving SEN support.
PACC’s role is to make sure parent carers’ voices are heard during the inspection. This is done by sharing reports and data, and by attending meetings with inspectors, Shropshire Council and the Integrated Care Board to give direct feedback based on parent carers’ experiences.
PACC is working to gather honest and detailed feedback from parent carers about what is working well and what needs to improve within the Shropshire SEND system. To help with this, PACC will be sharing surveys over the coming months. Completing these surveys helps build a clear picture of what it is like to raise a SEND child in Shropshire, which will be shared with inspectors.
The inspection will look at how well:
- children and young people’s needs are identified and assessed quickly and accurately
- families and young people are involved in decisions about their support
- the right support is provided at the right time
- children and young people are prepared for the future and achieve good outcomes
- children and young people are valued, included and visible in their communities
Inspectors will also consider how well local leaders work together, including whether:
- leaders are ambitious for children and young people with SEND
- leaders actively listen to and work with families and young people
- there is a shared understanding of local SEND needs
- services are planned and commissioned to meet those needs
- services are reviewed and improved
- strong multi-agency working is encouraged

Currently we have a survey about how reasonable adjustments are implemented in Shropshire schools. Your experience of this will tell us a lot about if children and young people with SEND are receiving the right support at the right time and if needs are identified in an accurate and timely way. The survey can be accessed here, we hope you can spare a few minutes to completed it.
