Reform of special educational needs system delayed until 2026

 

The Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has announced that the intended Schools White Paper will now not be published until early next year (2026). A white paper is a government policy document which sets out plans for future laws and policies. The Schools White Paper will include proposals on SEND in England.
In a letter to Commons Education Select Committee chair Helen Hayes, Ms Phillipson writes: “To help us deliver the most effective set of reforms we can, I have taken the decision to have a further period of co-creation, testing our proposals with the people who matter most in this reform – the families – alongside teachers and other experts as you highlight in the select committee’s report.” You can read the letter here
