Is Your Child a Wheelchair or Major Buggy User?
As part of the current National Health Service reforms, new ways of delivering services are being considered. Any Qualified Provider (AQP) is a delivery method that aims to provide greater choice to the people who use certain health services. AQP means that any organisation which can meet the agreed standards for a particular service can be approved to deliver this service and be NHS funded. It is a similar model to that which is currently used to deliver optician and dental services, and it is intended that AQP will encourage a greater number of small providers into the market enabling services to be delivered more locally. AQP is being rolled out across the country in a phased approach and Phase 1 required all Primary Care Trust clusters to select services from an identified list that would be considered for AQP in their area. In consultation with service users Wheelchair Services have been identified in Shropshire to be considered for AQP. This is a complicated process with many factors to be taken into account. To help with this process and to ensure that services are designed with the needs of the families in mind, PACC is working with Shropshire PCT to explore what AQP will mean for families who use Wheelchair Services. As a first step PACC would like to identify a group of families who support a wheelchair user and who would be willing to share their experiences to inform this work.
